The Character
Name: Bellatrix Lestrange
Age/Date of Birth: 48/14th of August 1951
Rank: Dutches, 5th in line to the crown
Allegiance: To the royal family and the traditional way of life.
Marital Status: Married to Rodolphus Lestrange, though she has little respect for that status.
Occupation: As a dutches Bellatrix has never had any need for a job.
House/Year: Slytherin, graduated 1969
Bloodline: Pureblood
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Appearance:
Bella has an imposing appearance and presence. She is tall, with thick dark hair and has dark eyes that frighten most. Her servants always ensure that her hair is always perfect; normally in elegant waves and make-up that is perfect. It is the same with her clothes. She always wears traditional robes and clothes; often of darker colours, though she does have a slight weakness for a deep purple. Like her hair, these clothes are always the most fashionable and stylish clothes around. However such emphasise on her appearance is very tedious to Bella. She knows that it is important to maintain her appearance though it is still very frustrating to her.

Personality:
Bellatrix was brought up as a Dutchess and a possible heir to the throne. She was given everything she could possibly want, and taught that she was better than everyone else. It led her to be extremely arrogant. As well she is cold, impolite, rude and harsh. To most she expects nothing less than respect, and she will take actions to demand that respect. To those who treat her as she believes she deserves, she tolerates them to an extent. It is only very rare when she would show any ounce of caring and loyalty.
In many ways Bella is a wild and passionate person. She holds nothing back in life. She is extremely impatient and hates waiting around. She sees no reason to preferring to take action. In this way she is an extremely energetic and outgoing who would rarely be found sitting around relaxing. If she does something she truly believes in she would do whatever needs to be done. She expresses her views passionately and fights for them, even if the threat to them is minimal. It is only when she aged, and truly understood her position in the royal family that she desired to control herself. Now she is more discrete when in public or in a situation that calls for it. Though she still has a significant temper that sometimes even she can not control.
When she was young she was carefree and uninhibited. Bella hated listening to people and almost never obeyed. However like her ‘unladylike’ behaviour she has learned to control this and has attempted to be more obedient. Though she despises it, and she would like nothing more than to never be in a position where she would have to listen to anyone again. In this way she often takes it out on her servants, who, she often continually gives ridiculous and outlandish orders just because she can.
She is actually rather intelligent (if she sees it is worth the time to put the effort in) and cunning. If she puts her mind to it she can often achieve most things. Though in normal life she is not very motivated, she rarely finds any opportunities to use her own brain. This is extremely frustrating to a woman who always wants to be engaged in something or another.
Furthermore, ever since she was young she was skilled at magic, duelling in particular. She found it exhilarating as she was able to perform magic, be energetic and being able to dominate others in something she was naturally skilled at. In fact such feelings soon evolved to much magic in general. Especially the Dark Arts which drew her like a moth to a flame. In her family they never had much of a stigma and when she researched them she found an area with a wealth of information. They allowed her to have a distinct advantage in any confrontation she faced. Bellatrix quickly found that there was no other better form of magic.

Special Abilities:
Bellatrix has always been naturally intelligent and skilled in areas of practical magic. This is particular the case with duelling and the dark arts which she constantly loves to practice.
History:
Bellatrix was born the eldest daughter to Cygnus and Druella Black. As part of the royal family she was raised in a traditional environment, with education befitting of her rank. As the eldest, she was always the leader of her two sisters’; Andromeda and Narcissa. When they were young, Bella used to be close with Andromeda but, as they grew this changed. Bella began to see her sister as sympathetic to muggleborns and in turn, Andromeda saw her sister’s treatment of muggleborns as cruel. Even before Andromeda officially fled, the two barely spoke to one another.
On the other hand, being four years younger than her, Bellatrix always viewed Narcissa as an annoying little girl. But, by Narcissa's fifth year, her little sister had grown up and they began to become closer. As they aged their relationship became closer with them seeing eye to eye on many issues.
Bella always viewed her mother as an annoyance. Everything Bellatrix did not want to be her mother represented, being only a wife and mother (in Bella's view anyway). These negative feelings only increased when, as the times passed, Bella realised that she too may be doomed to suffer the same fate.
However her relationship with her father is the opposite. Bella had always admired him, and wanted to be like him. This attitude made her participate in traditionally 'male' pursuits, such as duelling. Her father, for his part, was proud of his daughter’s achievements in these areas. As she aged he began to view her as the closest he could get to a male heir. Even today the father and daughter are still close.
At age eleven, like all children, she entered Hogwarts. Throughout Hogwarts she was an intelligent student, though not passionate about her education. She did little study in anything she was not interested in or viewed as useless. Generally this led her to excel in more practical subjects.
Because of her background, she was arrogant and looked down her nose of much of the population of the school. To any muggleborns who crossed her path she was cruel and often very violent. She quickly found her niche in Slytherin, with many eager to be close to a girl of her rank in society. Rodolphus Lestrange was one of them. Among the many relationships she had at school he was one. In fact they dated more than once. In some ways it was serious and Rodolphus certainly viewed it that way. Not wanting to be tied down, at that point in her life, she ended their relationship.
After she left Hogwarts she soon found life became blander. As a woman she found she was not allowed to be involved in much of the day to day runnings of the country. Her only involvement seemed to be as a young princess and socialite. This only became worse as she grew up. By the age of twenty five she was still not married, to her mother’s horror. It was not as if she did not have her fair share of suitors, she just did not want to be tied down. It was only when her father made the suggestion that she considered marriage seriously. Originally Bellatrix despised the suggestion. However as time went by she did begin to see his point. It was not proper to be unmarried.
She began to take her relationships with men more seriously and she quickly found a solution to her problem. She had remained close to Rodolphus since Hogwarts, but she soon realised he would be the perfect man for her to marry. Not because she loved him, but, because he was everything she would want in a husband; he checked off her all the boxes on her list. She was reasonably fond of him; he was a pureblood, and handsome. They did eventually marry but, she never grew to love him, even though she knows how seriously he cares for her. In fact over time her marital status has frustrated her more and more. She despises being tied down and in many ways this has led her to be angry at Rodolphus. Now any fondness she may have felt for him has disappeared and she has no scruples about having affairs; as long as they are discrete of course.
As the years went by Bella became more and more frustrated with her position in life. Especially when hints continued from her family that she should have a child. At that time, she hated the idea; she thought that if she did have a child she would forever be nothing more than a mother.
While she aged she quickly began to realize that those around her were beginning to pass away. With this happening she realised how close to the throne she was. It became her goal. One beacon glowing inside herself that she too could one day be queen. Even now, being fifth in line to the throne she desires that position. More than once, even though she does like her aunt, uncle and Regulus (Sirius less so) she has considered taking action so that her path to the throne is clear. She also fears Sirius getting the throne she knows he does not feel the same about that the reforms that have been made in relation to muggleborns. If he did ever become king Bellatrix does not think she could stand to see him live for long in that position.
Three Random Facts:
- She has a rather large sweet tooth especially for chocolate
- Even though her husband frustrates her and she would never admit it to anyone, sometimes Bella regrets not having children. It is not motherly instinct just that when she looks at Draco and how like his parents he is she sometimes wishes she could have someone who was so like her
- Bella hates being restricted and this is reflected in the fact that she is a little claustrophobic
Why did you choose this character?: Bella’s character has always been fascinating to me, how one person could be so loyal to another. In this game it is particularly interesting as Tom Riddle never became the Lord she followed and it is interesting how it would effect her personality.
Potential Plot?:
As a royal she would of course be heavily involved in most political moves. Also at this stage she is heavily ambitious and eager for the throne, even though she does care for her aunt, uncle and cousin it is possible she may take action to get the throne herself. I could possibly see her teaming up with the Malfoy’s as I can visualise Lucius as ambitious as he is making a few moves of his own (of course depending on the person who would play Lucius)
Also I would like to play her with other characters that she knew in another life and how differently she would interact with them. Especially Tom Riddle
